Work continues on new library plans

Architects will develop a final plan to submit to the City of Geneva this fall to begin the review process for a new library at 210 S. Sixth St. Current work includes a review of exterior building materials and colors, as well as site design.

This process began last spring and includes feedback received from three community forums, discussions with the City of Geneva's Historic Preservation Committee, city staff, Library staff, and the Library Board. Once the city application is complete, the project will go before the Historic Preservation Commission, Plan Commission, and Geneva City Council. The general timeline for the project is:

Fall 2017: Design development - exterior and interior design, site design, furniture design and selection, cost analysis, city preliminary reviews, city commission meetings, historic preservation commission first review.

Fall 2017 to February 2018: Construction documents, HPC second review, develop drawings and details for bidding and construction, expand building system detail, finalize city engagement process.

February to April 2018: Bidding - permitting, zoning final review, HPC final review, bidding, permitting.

April 2018 to Spring 2019: Contracts, construction, furniture procurement. Projected move-in date mid-year 2019.
